Veteran organizer Jane McAlevey talks to Real Media

UK platform Real Media has an in-depth conversation with veteran US labor activist and community organizer Jane McAlevey as she launches her book ‘No Shortcuts’. McAlevey discusses ‘class struggle and class snuggle’ and mobilizing vs organizing in relation to contemporary union fights. Part II of the interview is here.

“In theory we’d all wanna take a shortcut right…the problem is, the shortcut which I’m arguing we really can’t take – coz it’s proven that it doesn’t work – is we can’t not organize. We can’t just mobilize. We can’t just tweet, we can’t just facebook, we can’t just sit around pressing buttons and hanging out with like-minded people at protests. Because our numbers are shrinking wildly.”

Here’s a bit more on mobilizing vs. organizing.

And here’s where you can keep up to date with the great stuff Real Media is doing
