Three More Ways to Build Solidarity Across our Difference
We have more in common than divides us, but our situations are never equal.
Another brilliant blog post from the London-based Skills Network who are working ‘to nurture less siloed communities in the context of the post-Brexit debate.’ Their starting-point is that oppression and social division are not a post-Brexit phenomenon – people who are less privileged have always lived with that, and have always been working to counter it. Here they share insights from the work they and others have been doing.
Their listening and questioning techniques help people engage with each other with real curiosity and openness, and form connections across divides, shifting from notions of ‘helping’ towards ones of ‘learning together.’ Key to transformative approaches is the conviction that they form a continual and relentless process, and one that will keep being slightly undone by the rest of the world—meaning the job is never ‘done.’
